Centennial Project: General's Park
To celebrate Rotary International’s 100th anniversary, four area clubs participated in a “bricks and mortar" centennial project. The Aurora, Gateway, Stapleton and the Aurora Fitzsimons clubs worked with Steve Kimsey, Guarantee Electrical Contracting, and Rotarian, who was the general contractor.  The City of Aurora, and four trades unions committed workers to the project. Generals Park was selected because of its location and historical significance. Plans were developed for an Interpretive Walkway that not only symbolizes the motto of Rotary but its construction is the result of “Service above Self”. Interpretive panels describe the history of the park along with the history of Rotary International. The park will be used and enjoyed by patients, employees, veterans, and the general public. A ribbon cutting for Rotarians was be held on February 23, 2005. Our thanks to Mark Jessop for the idea and many others who were so generous in providing time and money for this wonderful project.

Pencils for Peace:
What is "Pencils for Peace?" Pencils for Peace is a humanitarian project spreading goodwill in the world by helping
support children's education. It was founded in 2002 by the Rotary Club of Denver Southeast in hopes that education will contribute to building good citizens of the world. We provided backpacks and school supplies to children of war-torn Afghanistan, where children's education, especially girls', has been suppressed or non-existent for many years. Now that the doors of repression are being opened, schools need to be built, and there is a tremendous need for teachers and supplies.
